growth & transitions

I am reminded of the transitions we experience between chapters of our lives. At times, we sprint happily driven by the desire to escape hoping to recall only a brief synopsis. Sometimes, the excitement of a new adventure moves us forward effortlessly. Occasionally, regardless of our confidence and excitement, we become engulfed in melancholy. Arriving without warning with a heaviness that is difficult to shake, then departing as quickly as it arrived. I think the melancholy comes from the shedding that has occured. Moving forward following periods of deep transformation we are keenly aware of how deeply we have changed. Investing time for inner-work, we emerge with a deeper understanding of ourselves and our role in regards to our experiences. Having made peace with the past, there is a moment of bittersweet yearning to remain the person we have now become yet the wisdom we have gained gifts us with the Knowing it is not possible. I think Heraclitus said it best…

“No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man.”

Just as with nature, as the seasons change we either become dormant or respond to the invitation inviting us to let go, bud and blossom again.
